Chew Joo Chiat was known as the "King of Katong" — a wealthy Peranakan landowner and philanthropist who developed land in this area in the early 1900s. Joo Chiat Road was named in his honour and the legacy of his community-first spirit lives on today.
The Katong-Joo Chiat area has been multicultural for over 100 years, blending the modern with the timeless — contemporary retail, F&B and creative services sit alongside heritage businesses in beautifully preserved pre-war shophouses.
